Welcome,

In this area we have included a number of Tanakh teachings which serve to better educate Christians about their Jewish heritage.  But first we will discuss how the Bible is formatted and structured so that you can better understand common terms when they are used.

What is the Tanakh?

Tanakh is a word meaning "old testament" which is composed of three major parts; the Torah, the Nevi'im, and K'tuvim.

The Torah consists of the first five books in the Bible, which are the books of the law; namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

The Nevi'im are the books of the prophets which are divided into two sections, the Nevi'im Rishonim or Early Prophets and the Nevi'im Acharonim or Later Prophets.  More specifically, the Early Prophet books consist of Joshua (Y'hoshua), Judges (Shof'tim), 1st and 2nd Samuel, and 1st and 2nd Kings.  The Later Prophet books include Isaiah (Yesha'yahu), Jeremiah (Yirmeyahu), Ezekiel (Yechezk'el), and the cumulative writing of all 12 of the minor prophets which are Hosea (Hoshea), Joel (Yo'el), Amos ('Amos), Obadiah ('Ovadyah), Jonah (Yonah), Micah (Mikhah), Nahum (Nachum), Habakkuk (Havakuk), Zephaniah (Tz'fanyah), Haggai (Hagai), Zechariah (Z'kharyah), and Malachi (Mal'akhi).

The K'tuvim is a collection of what are called "the writings" and include Psalms (Tehillim), Proverbs (Mishlei), Ecclesiastes (Kohelet), Job (Iyov), Song of songs (Shir-HaShirim), Ruth (Rut), Lamentations (Eikhah), Esther (Ester), Ezra ('Ezra), Nehemiah (Nechemyah), Daniel (Dani'el), and 1st and 2nd Chronicles.

If you would like to learn about how the B'rit Hadashah or "New Testament" is structured please refer to the "Life Application Teachings" tab.  Now that you have a basic understanding of the Tanakh; how it's structured, organized and formatted, we can begin to further explore the significant prophetic, symbolic and biblical importance the Tanakh scriptures possess in relation to all New Testament believers whether Jew or Gentile.  Please note that all files are formatted in either Word or Power Point.
